I wanted to be able to print documents and webpages to PDF format on a Windows 8 system. I had Adobe Acrobat Reader and FoxPDF Reader on the system, but neither gave me that capability. I found that I could get that capability via CurePDF™ Writer, which works on Microsoft Windows 98/ME/2000/XP/2003/Vista/7/2012/8/8.1 (32-bit/64-bit) systems.

Prior to installing CutePDF™ Writer, you will need to install a PS2PDF converter such as Ghostscript (recommended). You can download the free GPL Ghostscript 8.15 from the same webpage as the one providing CutePDF™ Writer.

After installing GPL Ghostscript 8.15, I installed version 3.0.0.1 of CutePDF™ Writer ; no reboot was required after the installation.

During the installation a window will appear with 'Install the FREE Ask Toolbar (Recommended)'. I almost always choose not to install any third-party toolbars that are part of a software installation, so I unchecked the options for the Ask Toolbar and changing the browser settings to make it my default search provider and browser homepage.

I canceled the installation part way through a couple of times and restarted it. Sometimes the window above would appear with 3 checkboxes related to Ask, whereas at other times the window below would appear with only 2 checkboxes. In the one above there is a checkbox labeled 'I want to install the Ask Toolbar...', which I unchecked along with the other two. With the window below there are only checkboxes related to setting Ask as the default search provider and setting and keeping it as the homepage. However, when I unchecked both of those, the Ask toolbar was not installed.

After opting to not install the Ask toolbar nor have any browser settings changed for it, I was then prompted regarding the installation of 'The Weather Channel Desktop App to receive local weather and alerts'. I usually rely on my phone for weather updates and clicked on the 'Decline' button.

I often like to save webpages in PDF format for future reference. When I print to the CutePDF Writer, I've found that some pages, e.g., ones at news sites where the pages are fairly long due to a lot of comments on an article will be missing a lot of the comments, if I stick with the default printing option for a letter-size (8.5' x 11') page. To get all of the comments, I click on the Properties button after selecting CutePDF Writer as the printer and then change the page size.

When the 'CutePDF Writer Document Properties' window opens, click on the Advanced button.

Then change the paper size to one with a much longer length. E.g., I've found that 24 x 108 in can give me all of the comments on a page where I would get just a few with the default letter size for a page.

You also have the option of selecting 'Postscript Custom Page Size' from the dropdown list of pager sizes. That will allow you to specify a page size that has a much greater height.

Click on OK once you've picked an appropriate page size for the document you intend to print, if you needed to change the page size from the default value. Then click on OK at the Print window to 'print' the document to a PDF file.

The company that produces CutePDF™ Writer, Acro Software, Inc., also provides other PDF programs, including CutePDF™ Professional, which provides many additional features when creating PDF documents. Though those additional features are sometimes useful to me, on the system on which I installed CutePDF Writer, I just wanted to have the ability to print webpages to PDF files for archiving on the system and to be able to convert files in formats that some people might not be able to view if I posted them to a website or sent them by email to PDF format, which is more widely readable. I can easily convert files to PDF, if I have an application on the system that can open them and print, since I can print to CutePDF Writer as a printer. So, I'm quite happy with the program.
