EditPad Pro 8.2.2 – 9 April 2021
EditPad Pro 8.2.2 is now available for download.
EditPad Lite is a freeware text editor that is designed to completely replace your Notepad program. It offers everything that Notepad does plus a lot more. Whether you’re looking for a program that has larger file support or one that can even offer you a tabbed interface, EditPad Lite has you covered. Download locations for EditPad Lite 7.2.3, Downloads: 1486, Size: 9.07 MB. Convenient basic text editor.
This release fixes some issues that we missed in 8.2.0 and 8.2.1.
Starting with version 8.2.0, EditPad maintains the right-click menu of its button on the taskbar by itself when running on Windows 7 or later. Windows calls this menu the JumpList. EditPad 8.2.0 and 8.2.1 failed to start when the JumpList could not be initialized. This happened when using WINE to run EditPad on Linux.
In EditPad 8.2.0 we improved the syntax coloring for Python files to handle integers that use underscores to group digits. Doing so we broke the highlighting of integer numbers containing zeros and of all hexadecimal numbers. This has been fixed.
In the settings in Windows you can configure the mouse pointer to snap to the default button when an application shows a dialog box. This was broken in EditPad 8.2.0. Now EditPad respects this option again.
EditPad 8 has a dark theme that you can activate via Options|Dark Theme. On the Panels page in the Preferences you can configure the colors of the side panels. EditPad 8.2.0 did not correctly apply the side panel colors when using the dark theme. This has been fixed.
When using the multi-line Search panel, the Edit|Delete Line command deletes a line in the Search or Replace box when it has keyboard focus. When using the single-line Search toolbar, the Edit|Delete Line command now deletes the search term or replacement when the Search or Replace box has keyboard focus instead of deleting a line in the file you’re editing.

PowerGREP 5.3.0 – 7 April 2021
PowerGREP 5.3.0 is now available for download.
At the top of the File Selector panel there is a button labeled Import. Clicking it opens the Import File Listings dialog. It lets you load lists of files and/or folders from arbitrary text flies and mark those files to be included in or excluded from the next action. Several improvements were made to this dialog. It now keeps a history of regular expressions that you have used to extract paths from the text files so you can quickly reuse them. When you select a file in the list “files with file listings” or add a file to it, the list with “file paths found in the selected file” shows you a preview of the paths that would be imported with your current settings. Building this preview could take a long time in previous versions of PowerGREP if a great number of paths were found in the file. Now the preview is just as quick as the actual import. The preview is now also limited to the first 10,000 paths in the file. If the file contains more paths then there will be a note at the bottom of the list explaining that the preview was cut off after 10,000 paths. These two changes let you preview your settings almost instantly even when importing very large file listings. The actual import will still import all the paths. If you use the Import File Listings dialog again with a new file selection during the same PowerGREP session then the preview is now cleared instead of showing a leftover preview from the last import.
When searching through PDF files, PowerGREP needs to first convert them to plain text. PowerGREP places a time limit on this conversion to ensure that your action doesn’t stall when the PDF converter gets stuck on a particular PDF file. If the time limit is exceeded then PowerGREP aborts the conversion and adds the error “converter process timed out” to the Results panel. The exact number of seconds that PowerGREP will wait depends on the size of the PDF file. Previously, the conversion PDF files that contained many hundreds of pages of text but few or no images could time out prematurely on slower computers. Such PDF files are relatively small but take relatively long to have all their text converted. PowerGREP now gives the PDF converter significantly more time to do its work. If you have been getting these errors previously then you will need to erase the conversion cache in the Cache section in the Preferences. When a conversion times out PowerGREP remembers this. Next time you try to search through the same file you’ll get an error saying that a “previous attempt to convert this file failed“. PowerGREP won’t waste time trying to convert the same file again until either the file changes on disk or you erase the cache.
If PowerGREP does not have a built-in converter for a particular file format but Windows Search does find such files based on their contents on your computer then your computer must have an IFilter installed for that file format. The IFilter enables Windows Search to extract keywords or text from the file. PowerGREP can do the same if you enable the option “use filter, if available for this file format, to convert files to plain text“. You can access it by clicking the (...) button next to “file formats to convert to plain text” on the File Selector panel. Previously, PowerGREP could only use an IFilter if it implemented IPersistFile to load a file directly from disk. If an IFilter only implements IPersistStream then previous versions of PowerGREP acted as if the IFilter was not available at all. Now PowerGREP will load the file from disk and feed it into the IFilter through IPersistStream. There’s no easy way for you to check which interface an IFilter supports. But if you have an IFilter installed on your computer that seemed to be ignored by previous versions of PowerGREP then it will most likely work now.
If you set “archive formats to search inside” on the File Selector panel to “attachments & proprietary formats” then PowerGREP can search through email messages and their attachments stored in Outlook MSG files. If an email message has another email message as an attachment then PowerGREP now correctly searches through the attached email message and even through the attached email message’s own attachments.

DeployMaster 7.0.0 – 5 April 2021
DeployMaster 7.0.0 is now available for download.
DeployMaster 7.0.0 is a free minor update. We’ve numbered it as a major upgrade because it brings one key change. When you tell DeployMaster to digitally sign an installer targeting Windows XP or Vista, DeployMaster 7 no longer applies a time stamp to the signature. This means that the signature is only valid for as long as your code signing certificate remains valid.
The reason for this is that the SHA-1 time stamps supported by Windows XP and Vista are being phased out. This is part of a longer trend in the industry to phase out everything based on SHA-1. Applying an SHA-256 time stamp to an SHA-1 signature makes Windows XP and Vista treat the whole signature as invalid because they can’t verify the time stamp. An SHA-1 signature without a time stamp is treated as valid by Windows XP SP3 and Vista during the time period that your code signing certificate is valid for.
If you tell DeployMaster to digitally sign an installer targeting Windows 7 or later then DeployMaster 7 now requires you to build your installer on Windows 7 or later. That is needed to apply an SHA-256 signature with an SHA-256 time stamp.
The list of time stamping service URLs on the Media page has been updated and expanded. Several providers have changed their URLs and several new ones have been added. The services higher in the list were faster and/or more reliable in our tests that those lower in the list. Your experience may vary depending on your location and the time of day you build your installers.
The Media page now has a new checkbox to sign any unsigned .dll and .ocx files that you added to your installer. This allows your users or any security software they may use to verify that your .dll and .ocx files were not tampered with. It doesn’t affect the security warnings shown by Windows.
If you are not yet ready to upgrade to DeployMaster 7 then you can continue using DeployMaster 4.2.2 through 6.6.0 by selecting tsa.startfieldtech.com as the time stamping service on the Media page. This is the last remaining service that still produces time stamps compatible with Windows XP SP3 and Windows Vista. Comodo’s URL still works but it actually applies a SHA-384 time stamp. This time stamp is only recognized by Windows 7 and later. The other URLs that you could select in previous versions of DeployMaster no longer work.
Editpad Lite 7 Download
DeployMaster remembers the time stamping URL that you select as a global preference. It is not saved into the .deploy file. This way you only need to select a different URL once if your previous choice stops working. The new URL will be used for all future builds until you change it again. If your previously selected URL is one that is no longer available in DeployMaster 7 then DeployMaster automatically selects the first URL in the new list.
AceText 4.0.4 – 1 April 2021
AceText 4.0.4 is now available for download. This is a free minor update for anyone who has purchased or has upgraded to AceText 4.0.x. If you are still using AceText 3, you can purchase the upgrade to AceText 4.x.x.
This release fixes another issue with parameter substitution. AceText 4 only does this for clips for which you tick the new Parameters checkbox. When you do AceText 4 highlights the parameters to show what will be substituted. Built-in parameters (which are substituted without prompting) are highlighted in blue. Custom parameters are highlighted in purple. Custom parameters are automatically substituted with the contents of another clip if there is one that has the parameter as its label. AceText prompts for the value for all other custom parameters. When AceText shows you the prompt it has already substituted the parameters that it could substitute automatically. If those substitutions contain percentage signs then this could result in other text after the substitution looking like another parameter in the form of %PARAM%. When that happened the parameters that AceText prompted for were not substituted correctly or at all. This has been fixed. Parameters are now substituted correctly when a clip has a mixture of parameters that are automatically substituted and parameters that are prompted for. The text that the automatic parameters are substituted with no longer affects and is no longer affected by the substitution of the parameters that require a prompt.
AceText 4 supports clips with syntax coloring that is automatically applied by a syntax coloring scheme. A variety of syntax coloring schemes for popular programming languages and file formats are included with AceText. You can download user-contributed syntax coloring schemes via the button on the Appearance page in the Preferences. AceText now correctly reloads the syntax coloring schemes immediately after you close the download window.
The Replace All button now works correctly on the Clipboard tab. The Convert|Characters|Characters ⇒ &htmlchar; menu item now does too. The Search Options button on the AceText Tower is now functional.
Pressing the AceType hotkey now selects the previously used abbreviation in the AceType lookup field like AceText 3 used to do. This way you can immediately enter a new abbreviation as it will replace the selected abbreviation. The AceType lookup field is a full-featured edit control. So you can move the cursor to edit the previously used abbreviation instead of entering a new one if you prefer.
The option “Pressing Tab inserts spaces instead of tab characters” on the Appearance page in the Preferences now remains in effect when restarting AceText 4, like it did in AceText 3. The behavior of the controls for entering key combinations for Copy and Paste commands on the Applications and Windows pages in the Preferences has been corrected. They now work like they used to do in AceText 3.

HelpScribble 8.3.0 – 28 May 2020
HelpScribble 8.3.0 is now available for download.
HelpScribble’s HelpContext property editor now supports Delphi 10.4 Sydney and C++Builder 10.4 Sydney. HelpScribble’s installer will automatically install it if it detects that you have Delphi 10.4 Sydney or C++Builder 10.4 Sydney installed. HelpScribble’s HelpContext property editor can assign HelpContext properties to controls in VCL applications and Multi-Device applications.
Compiling a project with a lot of PNG or GIF images into HTML Help format is now faster. HelpScribble no longer reads them while preparing the files for the help compiler. It no longer specifies the width and height attributes on image tags in the HTML for PNG or GIF images. It didn’t do this for JPEG images in the past either.
A single space at the start of a paragraph is now correctly preserved when compiling into HTML Help format.

RegexBuddy 4.11.0 – 27 May 2020
RegexBuddy 4.11.0 is now available for download.
This release brings RegexBuddy up-to-date with all the applications that it supports. Newly supported versions are Boost 1.73, C++Builder 10.4, Delphi 10.4, Java 14, PCRE 8.44, PCRE2 10.34, PHP 7.4.6, R 4.0.0, and Ruby 2.7.
You can now use Split mode in RegexBuddy when you select “PowerShell operators” as your application. When you do you can generate a code snippet using PowerShell’s -split operator on the Use panel.
Several fixes were made to the PCRE2 source code snippets that RegexBuddy generates on the Use panel. Most importantly, the function for iterating over all capturing groups needs to retrieve the number of capturing groups using PCRE2_INFO_CAPTURECOUNT instead of PCRE2_INFO_BACKREFMAX.
RegexBuddy now knows that empty atomic groups are a syntax error in Boost. In all other regex flavors that support atomic groups, an empty one simply does nothing.
This release also fixes a few bugs in RegexBuddy’s regex engine. They only occurred in very specific circumstances. The version history has the complete list.

What People Say About EditPad Lite
These are just a few from a long list of unsolicited testimonials we have received from our users.
Editpad Lite Review
B. Smoak“I just had to let you know that I’ve been using EditPad Lite for a while now and I Love It! I’ve recommended it to my family and friends with high marks for quality, speed and features. I have used many different Notepad clones trying to find the balance between user friendliness and utility. EditPad Lite represents the fusion that finally brings balance to the Force.” 8 March 2018 Nick McCusker“I have been remiss in not sending this email sooner. I was turned on to EditPad Lite by a fellow coworker years ago. At the time, I did not anticipate how dependent I have become on this wonderful piece of software. I could not count the ways it has helped me.” 23 March 2011 | Robert Potter“I have used the freeware version of EditPad for about a year, and I wanted to thank you for making such a great program available for home use. If I were in a position to, I’d certainly buy EditPad Pro just so I could pay you for your software (I’m a poor graduate student, so that’s not in the cards just yet). “Yours is one of the few programs on my PC that I cannot remember ever having crashed, or caused a crash. It doesn’t freeze. It is tiny, so it doesn’t slow the system down. EditPad is one of the few programs that has free reign over my PC—I configured ZoneAlarm to let EditPad do whatever it wants. And it never messes with anything! “EditPad has lots of features, but none that contribute to bloatware. I am sure that EditPad Pro is the same—and its list of added features look great too.” 3 August 2005 |
